A good cigar lighter delivers a steady, clean flame that toasts the foot evenly without changing the cigar's flavor. Most cigar smokers prefer a butane torch lighter: it stays lit in the wind and lights a cigar quickly and evenly, especially wide ones.
Ours range from single-jet pocket torches to quad-jet tabletop lighters, including models with a built-in cigar punch, so you can cut and light with one tool. Pair yours with a sharp cigar cutter, and see How to Smoke a Cigar for lighting tips.
How to Choose a Cigar Torch Lighter
Match the jets to your cigars. A single jet, like the windproof Xikar Stratosphere II, is precise and easy on butane, a great fit for coronas and robustos. A double jet such as the Palio Antares covers more of the foot at once. For big ring gauges and outdoor smoking, a triple or quad jet, like the Palio Polaris or Palio Veneto, lights a 60 ring gordo in seconds, even on a breezy golf course.
Want one less thing in your pocket? Lighters with a built-in punch cutter, like the Palio Scorpius and the Lotus Fury L59, cut and light in one tool.
Light it the right way. Hold the flame just off the foot instead of jamming it into the tobacco, and rotate the cigar to toast it evenly before you draw. A torch burns hot, so a gentle approach keeps the wrapper from scorching. When a torch sputters or won't hold a flame, it is usually out of butane: refill it with quality refined butane and give it a few minutes to settle before lighting.

Cigar Lighter FAQ
What is the best lighter for cigars?
A butane torch lighter. The jet flame is hot, clean and wind-resistant, so it lights evenly without leaving any taste.
- Palio Veneto Quad Jet: four jets for fast, even lighting on any ring gauge.
- Palio Antares Double Jet: a dependable everyday torch.
- Palio Polaris Inline Triple Jet: a wide, focused flame in a slim design.
- Xikar Stratosphere II: a windproof single jet built for outdoor use.
- Palio Scorpius: an angled jet torch with a built-in punch cutter.
- Lotus Fury L59: a premium torch with a built-in cigar punch.
Torch or soft flame: which is better?
Most smokers prefer a torch for its wind resistance and speed. A soft flame, like the Xikar Meridian, is gentler and more traditional, and some smokers like the slower, more controlled toast it gives. Either way, stick with butane. Fluid lighters like the classic Zippo can leave an unwanted taste on the cigar.
Single, double, triple or quad jet: what's the difference?
More jets make a wider, hotter flame. A single jet is compact and great for everyday carry. Double and triple jets light faster and more evenly. Quad jets make quick work of thick cigars like gordos, where a wide foot needs more flame to light evenly.
Do you have lighters with a built-in cigar punch?
Yes. The Palio Scorpius and Lotus Fury L59 both have a punch cutter built in, so you can cut and light with one tool. They're great for travel and the golf course.
How do you light a cigar with a torch lighter?
Toast, don't torch. Hold the flame about half an inch below the foot and rotate the cigar slowly until the whole end glows evenly, then take a few gentle draws while you keep rotating. Putting the cigar right in the flame can scorch it and make the first puffs harsh. Our How to Smoke a Cigar guide walks through it step by step.
