Cigar Wrapper FAQ
What is a cigar wrapper?
The wrapper is the outer leaf rolled around the binder and filler. It's the most carefully selected leaf in the cigar and the biggest single contributor to its flavor and aroma.
Which cigar wrapper is the mildest?
Connecticut Shade is generally the mildest and creamiest wrapper, which is why it's the most common choice for a first cigar. The blend inside still matters, so check each cigar's strength rating too.
Is a darker wrapper stronger?
Not necessarily. A dark Maduro wrapper gets its color from longer fermentation, which also brings out natural sweetness. Many Maduro cigars are medium in strength, and some light wrappers carry a fuller blend underneath.
What is the difference between Maduro and Connecticut cigars?
Connecticut Shade is a light, shade-grown leaf with a smooth, creamy taste. Maduro is a dark, long-fermented wrapper with cocoa, coffee and a natural sweetness. Same idea, very different flavor.
