Aging Room cigars collection at Cigar Nation

Rafael Nodal came to the United States from Cuba in 1980 as a teenager on the Mariel boatlift. He trained as a musician first, on piano and violin, and came to cigars later.

His first Aging Room release, Small Batch M356, came out in 2011, made by Jose "Jochy" Blanco in the Dominican Republic, and its Presto size landed at No. 16 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 of 2011, rated 92. In 2012 Nodal renamed his company Boutique Blends to reflect its focus on small production runs and long-rested tobacco rather than volume.

The Quattro Nicaragua Maestro, made in partnership with A.J. Fernandez, became Cigar Aficionado's No. 1 Cigar of the Year in 2019, a 96-point Nicaraguan puro. Nodal's musical background still shows up in how he names things: the Quattro line's sizes carry musical names like Maestro, Concerto and Vibrato.
