La Historia is Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's tribute to his family's story in cigars, and the E.P. Carrillo La Historia E-III Churchill (6 7/8 x 54) is the size that took it to the top: Cigar Aficionado's No. 2 Cigar of 2014, rated 95.
It is a box-pressed Churchill with a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, made in the Dominican Republic. Cocoa and espresso lead, with black cherry and spice behind them. It is full-bodied, and the long, wide format keeps all that strength cool and even. Plan on about 90 minutes, a true Weekend Warrior on the Burn Clock.
Clear an evening for it: a milestone, a long dinner, a night by the fire. Vintage port or an aged bourbon holds up to it, and so does a mocha. Boxes of 20. Explore more San Andrés cigars and full-bodied cigars.
