Punch was registered in Cuba in 1840, named after the cantankerous puppet Mr. Punch specifically to appeal to British smokers who already knew the character from Punch and Judy shows. It worked, the brand became one of the most popular Cuban exports in England within a few decades.

Ownership changed hands several times over the following century, Luis Corujo in 1874, then Manuel Lopez Fernandez in 1884, whose name still appears on Cuban Punch bands and boxes today. After the revolution, the non-Cuban side of the brand moved production to Honduras, where it remains.

Today's Punch is made at the HATSA factory in Danli, Honduras, for General Cigar, built on Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Dominican filler under an Ecuadorian wrapper. It has stayed true to the mascot's personality the whole way through, bold, straightforward, and unapologetically full-bodied.
