My Father cigars collection at Cigar Nation

Jose “Pepin” Garcia rolled his first cigar at age 11 in Baez, Cuba, and came up making Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and H. Upmann inside the nationalized state factories after the revolution. He didn't reach Miami until 2003, when he opened a factory the size of a small apartment with a dozen rollers under the name El Rey de los Habanos.

The My Father blend itself wasn't his idea. In 2008, his son Jaime developed it in secret, swearing the rollers to silence so he could surprise his father with a cigar made in his honor. Pepin found out anyway, tasted it, and was impressed enough that the whole company took on the name a year later when the family opened its new factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.

That blend went on to win Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year in 2012, and My Father Le Bijou 1922 repeated the honor in 2015, a rare double for one family in less than a decade. Three generations, Pepin, Jaime, and daughter Janny, now run a factory that produces around 24 million handmade cigars a year.
