Avo Cigars was founded by Avo Uvezian, a concert pianist and composer who turned a personal passion for cigars into one of Davidoff of Geneva USA's core brands. That musical background still shows up in the brand's identity, favoring smooth, elegant profiles over raw strength.

The Classic and XO lines built Avo's reputation for refined, medium-bodied Dominican puros, while the newer Syncro and Domaine series introduce bolder wrapper options like Nicaraguan Habano and Ecuadorian Sumatra for smokers who want more depth without losing the brand's polish.

Avo cigars are a natural fit for smokers who value construction and consistency as much as flavor, especially for relaxed, lower-key occasions. Browse our in-stock Avo selection for fast shipping on a brand built by one of the industry's more unusual founders.

Avo Uvezian was a jazz pianist first. Born in Beirut in 1926, he spent decades performing before landing a nightly piano gig at a Puerto Rico resort in the 1980s, where he kept his own custom-blended cigars sitting on top of the piano for anyone who wanted one.

Customers and friends started writing to ask where they could buy them. That was enough to convince Uvezian to get serious, and in 1987 he partnered with Davidoff's master blender, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, to build a real cigar around the blend. It launched under the name Bolero before Uvezian changed it to Avo and debuted the line at Davidoff's New York store.

By 1995, Davidoff bought the distribution rights outright for a reported $10 million. Uvezian kept touring cigar events well into his 90s, always in his white Brioni suit and mimbre hat, until his death in 2017. Avo remains part of the Davidoff Cigars family today.
